  • CLIA Program Expanded to include New Inductee Category – Cruise Sales Innovator

Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) opened nominations for the eighth annual Cruise Industry Hall of Fame, with 2012 inductees to be honored at a gala dinner April 28 at cruise3sixty in Fort Lauderdale.

In addition to choosing an outstanding past or present Cruise Retailer and Cruise Industry Executive, CLIA members are being asked for the first time to nominate a Cruise Sales Innovator – a cruise vacation retailer who stands out as an innovator, pioneering unique strategies, ideas, and programs that have significantly contributed to developing and growing the cruise vacation industry.

"The Cruise Industry Hall of Fame is always a highlight of cruise3sixty and one of the cruise industry's most important events because it honors individuals who have done so much to create this exciting industry. This year we are introducing a new category of inductee to recognize that the success of cruising is the story of innovation, creative thinking, and change," said Bob Sharak, CLIA's executive vice president for marketing and distribution. "Our first Cruise Sales Innovator undoubtedly will be someone whose entrepreneurial spirit, imagination and bold action have pioneered innovative ways to sell and succeed in the cruise industry."

The Cruise Industry Hall of Fame recognizes individuals on an annual basis that are selected based on nominations from CLIA's membership, followed by a review by a CLIA Trade Relations Committee. Inductees are chosen in three categories (Cruise Retailer, Cruise Industry Executive, Cruise Sales Innovator).

Nominations should be based on the following considerations:

    •    Did the nominee’s accomplishments change or affect the cruise industry in a positive way?
    •    Can the nominee be considered a positive role model?
    •    What did the nominee accomplish that sets him or her apart from others in the industry?

In 2011, the inductees for the Cruise Industry Hall of Fame included the United States Coast Guard; Michele Morgan, of Signature Travel; and Rick Sasso, of MSC Cruises.

CLIA's cruise3sixty 2012 will be held April 25-30 at the Broward Country Convention Center in Fort Lauderdale. Registration is open. For more information visit www.cruise3sixty.com.
